The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at multiple agonizing personal histories for characters such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.

All in all, the intro looks stunning. However, I felt that an element was lost in the music selection.

This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. It's a track originating from the official score of that title, the second release put out by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Including singing from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my device. This track that excites you before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be among these.
