Air travel have restarted at Edinburgh Airport following a substantial air traffic control outage halted all operations.

Every arrival and departure were stopped after an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.

Flights Resume with Ongoing Delays

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are anticipated to affect schedules. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

An airport representative had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Root of the Disruption

The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Passengers are still being urged to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the airport as backlogs are cleared.
